Most states have some form of a Financial Responsibility Act that requires a registered owner of a motor vehicle have minimum liability insurance protection for that registered vehicle. Some studies have concluded that over 1 in 3 motorists on public roadways do not have liability insurance. Chances of an accident involving an uninsured motorist are too high. If you suffer that happens, then what? Uninsured motorist protection on any automobile you own may enable you to recover your losses from your own insurance company. Recovery will depend upon a resolution of the underlying liability, the nature and extent of your losses, and the amount of coverage and number of vehicles you have that have uninsured motorist protection. In addition, if the responsible party has liability insurance, but in an inadequate amount, you may be able to pursue an under-insured motorist claim to supplement that amount. An experienced attorney understands how uninsured motorist/under-insured motorist insurance policies apply and should develop and present claims to maximize recovery for the client.
